The Emandare Vineyard Guest House was thoughtfully designed and built as a peaceful retreat immersed in the natural beauty of the Cowichan Valley. Overlooking Somenos Lake and surrounded by 8.5 acres of vineyard, this custom carriage home combines practical functionality with elevated design.
Featuring two spacious bedrooms, two bathrooms, and over 400 square feet of covered deck space, the home was designed to serve as both a luxury guest accommodation and a highly functional extension of the vineyard property.
A Custom Carriage Home Designed for Vineyard Living
This project was built as a custom carriage house, a detached garage structure with fully finished living space above. The design allowed the owners to maximize valuable vineyard storage below while creating a beautiful short-term rental and guest suite above.
Throughout planning and construction, careful consideration was given to preserving as much usable vineyard land as possible while integrating the home naturally into the surrounding landscape.
Navigating Complex Site & ALR Requirements
One of the unique aspects of this project involved working through Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR), municipal, and riparian development restrictions.
Our team collaborated closely with the homeowners and consultants to navigate the site limitations while still delivering a warm, inviting, and highly functional living space.
To comply with municipal restrictions, the home was designed without a full kitchen. Instead, a custom wine and beverage bar was incorporated to create an ideal gathering space for relaxing wine and cheese evenings overlooking the vineyard.
Durable, Low-Maintenance Design
As a short-term rental property, the home was designed with long-term durability and ease of maintenance in mind.

- Luxury vinyl plank flooring throughout
- Black powder-coated metal detailing
- Post and beam timber accents
- Custom blue entry doors to complement the main residence
- In-suite laundry
- Central vacuum system
The interior design and custom cabinetry were thoughtfully created by the homeowner, adding a highly personal touch to the finished space.
Expansive Outdoor Living
One of the most striking elements of the home is the expansive 400-square-foot covered front deck overlooking the vineyards and Somenos Lake.
Designed to maximize indoor-outdoor living, the deck creates a peaceful gathering space where guests can fully experience the beauty of the Cowichan Valley landscape.
