Pastoral Farmhouse

This modern farmhouse is a complete custom renovation to transform an existing rural Duncan house into a home that was suitable for our clients’ growing family and lifestyle. The original farmhouse was too small and dark. The layout for this house was also ineffective for a family with parents who work from home.

The new design was carefully done to meet the clients’ needs.  As a result, the layout of the home was completely flipped. The kitchen was switched to the opposite corner of the house from its original location.  In addition, Made to Last constructed multiple additions to increase the size.

An important feature to the design was to capture the surrounding views of the Cowichan Valley countryside with strategically placed windows.

This modern farmhouse now boasts a dramatic design for the main level. Vaulted ceilings and custom millwork bring an elevated style to the space.  The cable railing stairwell is particularly amazing. And the large deck off the living room is great for entertaining.

The kitchen includes an island in a beautiful forest green accent colour.  This also has the benefit of bar seating and a hidden coffee bar behind for easy access. Floating shelves, windows, and full-height tiled walls highlight the modern farmhouse style and keep the kitchen bright and airy.

The custom design includes a jack-and-jill style bathroom between the children’s bedrooms. There is also a playroom on the first floor for the kids to enjoy, with an adjoining media room. The laundry room on the upper floor alongside the bedrooms and kitchen increases efficiency and functionality.

The master suite now includes a luxurious shower, separate bath, double vanity, and a walk-in closet. Glass doors offer a smooth transition to the private rear deck.
